Artists will learn basic materials, tools, and techniques to develop fundamental skills, which are essential to creating more expressive paintings. Artists will create several studies over the course of six meetings. Throughout the course students will create a series of small works, based on the artist’s skill, taste, and comfort level.
Artists need to bring a mixed media or heavy paper sketchbook and basic pencils to the initial meeting. Other supplies & implements are welcome, but not required. Instructor will supplement as necessary. Afterwards, students will need to purchase supplies to use during the workshop and at home.
No experience necessary. Basic drawing skills will enhance the experience, but are not required.
Students may elect to use the colors and brands of their choice. Suggestions: Windsor & Newton, Golden, Holbein. Heavy body paints are thicker. I prefer these for my work. Avoid student grade, not much pigment. “Open” acrylics stay wet longer. All the others dry fairly quick. If this is your first set of paints, get a limited set with black and white. More on this in the first meeting. These supplies are not necessary for the first meeting as the instructor will have available.
